A Musical Birthday!

Birthday Card, 3D, Musical instruments, piano, guitar, SVGcuts, Lettering Delights
Birthdays.  I'd like to forget them.  But when you're only turning 15 like my son did a few weeks ago, it's okay to remember, in fact, you'd better!  Son #2 loves music and plays piano, guitar and viola.  Deciding what to make for him was a no brainer.  SVGCuts.com has two kits which contain 3D musical instruments.  One is called Thank You For the Music (piano), and the other is Vintage Valentines (guitar).  At first I thought they'd be difficult to put together, but they were surprisingly easy. Mary at SVGCuts makes everything look easy in her assembly videos, and this time it was!

The only part I'm not satisfied with is the guitar "strings".  I apparently didn't tighten the fishing line I used for them enough.  It was too late to tighten them by the time I realized how loose they were.  My son, however, could care less about the strings.  You see, the cool part is both instruments are also boxes, and I had stuffed his favorite candy inside!

I also designed a card to go along with the piano and guitar, using a program called Popup Card Studio (PCS).  This is an awesome, somewhat new program created by Andy, the same smart guy who created Make The Cut!(MTC).  It was really easy to create this simple pop up card, and it eliminated the need for some tedious node editing in MTC.  Of course I did cut the card with MTC after importing the card from PCS.  Here's the front which is a frame that I welded a keyboard and musical notes to, along with my son's name.

The black portion of the musical notes on the bottom are printed because they were so tiny there was no way they could be cut.  And yes, I did try!  It was a free file from somewhere, don't know where so I can't give credit.

Now check out the inside.

This is the first card I made in PCS, so it's pretty basic.  There is a learning curve to this program, and the place I get help is at susanbluerobot.  She has tons of helpful videos that got me up and running.   The cards that can be made in Popup Card Studio are amazing, so go check it out here.  Once I get more familiar with PCS I hope to be making some wow factor cards to show off, but until then...

Here's what I used:

Quick Post: Happy Birthday Popup Card with Make The Cut

Since it's my birthday I thought I'd post a birthday card I made for my mom a few months ago.  It's a popup I made with Make The Cut.  Of course it would have been a lot easier to make if Pop Up Card Studio was around!  Even so, it didn't take that long, because I used a tutorial from Susanbluerobot.  I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

For the caption on the front I used two thin fonts and a Zig marker with my Cougar pen holder in my Cameo.  I was so happy when I discovered the pen holder fit perfectly.  I think I have to lower the thickness setting on the Cameo because there are dots in the writing.  The banners were welded together and I made the word "another" conform to the path of the middle part.  On the inside, for a place to write, I used a journal card that came on a sheet from the paper pad I used.  So, that's what I'll be doing today, adding another candle to the cake, ugh!  Here's what I used for this card:

Make The Cut*
Silhouette Cameo
My Mind's Eye Indie Chic Nutmeg Paper Pad
Core'dinations Cardstock
SNF Simon Says (Happy Birthday)
Light Sans Thin Font (another)
Cursive Thin Font (Add, candle!)
Birthday Sparkle Stencil SVG's (Cake) This set is no longer available.
Christmas Cookie Party SVG Collection (Banners)

Happy Haunting Pumpkin Pop Up Card

Here is my attempt at making a card like the ones made on Wall Decor and More. The pumpkin pops up from the top of the card and is cut out from the back as you can see in the pic below.
I loaded the paper cut to the size I wanted (81/2 by 51/2)and scored it. I let part of it hang off the edge of the mat opposite the side that goes into the Cricut. In order for it to cut in the right place I had to line up the scored line with where it looked like the Cricut would stop cutting. The pictures above show how I loaded the paper and set it up in Design Studio. I guess it's pretty simple, but I fretted for a while on how to do this and then it just came to me while I was doing something completely unrelated (that means reading other people's blogs! LOL!). I was so happy when I figured this out because I had been reading a post on the Cricut forum that said there must be a way to do this but no one had come up with it yet. I thought there was no way to do it! I'll be trying more shapes doing this for sure! Here's the inside of the card.Hope you enjoyed this! Happy Haunting to you!

Catching Up- Happy Easter! (In July)

Just thought I'd do some catching up with an Easter card I made. I got the directions for this pop up card at Scrappy Go Lucky. I don't have the fancy gel pens and holder, so I did my best with my cheap Staples pens and a pencil grip on my Cricut to write the Happy Easter part. This card was extremely fun to make and well worth the time spent! I love that chocolate bunny! I made this a while ago so it's hard to remember everything in terms of paper but I believe most of it is DCWV. The bunny is from the Easter 2010 cart (which I love!) and the grass is from Plantin Schoolbook. I had to alter the grass on my Gypsy to make it fit right on the card. I used plenty of stickles on this one as well. Thanks for looking, and have a great day!
